LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) Chairman Bill Gates (news - web sites) sold 1 million shares of Microsoft stock last Friday at prices ranging from $26.155 to $26.38 each, the company said in a series of regulatory filings on Tuesday.

In forms filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (news - web sites), Microsoft said Gates sold the shares in a number of transactions during the day, realizing at least $26.2 million from the sales.

After the sales, he was left with more than 1 billion Microsoft shares, according to the filings.

Gates' sales come about two months after Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer sold shares worth $1.45 billion in a series of transactions over two weeks.
